What do dragons, fairies, and other assorted nature spirits have in common? (If you say they don't exist, the please go back one space). They are all creatures from the "forest." To our ancestors, the forest was the world of the unknown. The forest became the source and explanation of the ineffable. However, since science and industry have ramped up, we have put forth all our efforts in conquering mother Earth, turning that mystical world into another platform of control and exploitation. Gone are the mystical lairs where dragons horde their gold, where fairies and gnomes celebrate the moon, and where elves play and sing.

But for level 7 WooWoos, these creatures are not gone. They still exist. Some explain that they exist in an "energetic sense." Others claim that these creatures do indeed exist in the real, physical sense. Still others go in their backyard and chide the gnomes for when the sprinkler fails to go off.

Please note that nature spirits is a generic term. This list includes: fairies, pixies, sprites, wisps, gnomes, elves, hobbits or halflings, and brownies -- no, not the young girls in uniforms selling cookies (although aren’t elves supposed to sell cookies too???).

Quiz Questions

If you answer "yes" to some or all of these questions, you are at least this level. Go up to the next level of woowoo. If you answered "no" to all of these questions, your woowoo level is definitely one level below this level.

  1. When you loose your keys, do you assume that the gnomes are entering your house and playing tricks on you again?
  2. Are the depictions of the dragon in Chinese cultures depicting a real creature?
  3. Do you own the movie Dragonheart and Dragonslayer and Puff the Magic Dragon?

  • Interesting post. I have stumbled this for my friends. Hope others find it as interesting as I did.

  • This I don't really believe in… but dragons can be real in some other animal species though.
I honestly think there could be “fairies” and “spirits” all around us. Plus, those spirits and fairies add a bit of enchantment and curiosity into childrens' stories.

Maybe these fairytale stories and legends/myths were just a way of entertaining others back then.
